Today's Fact

Vegetable

  • Vegetables are the parts of plants that we can eat! Lettuce is one plant's leaves ; celery is another's stem ; broccoli is a flower; and beets are roots. Vegetables are healthy foods that are full of vitamins and nutrients.
  • Not all vegetables are green. Many come in bright colors, such as red radishes, orange pumpkins, yellow squashes and purple eggplants.
  • Carrots are crunchy orange vegetables that are good for your eyes. If you eat plenty of carrots, they can help you to see better !
  • The tomato is really a fruit! Scientifically speaking, it has all the characteristics of a fruit. But because the tomato is often used as a vegetable and not sweet like most fruits, many people consider the tomato a vegetable.

Star

  • Stars are glowing balls of gas that twinkle in the night sky. Since they are so far away, they can look like little white dots, but many stars are a million times bigger than our sun.
  • Constellation are stars that appear to form familiar shapes in the sky, like connect-the-dot puzzles. Many constellations are shaped like animals or people.
  • One of the brightest constellations is the Big Dipper, which looks like a pan with a very long handle.
  • Large groups of stars are called galaxies. A galaxy might be made up of billions of stars! The Earth, sun, and the rest of our solar system are just a tiny part of the Milky Way Galaxy.
